Victorian French 18k Diamond + Enameled Pocket Watch

A gorgeous and unusual French pocket watch from the Victorian (ca1840) era! Crafted in 18k yellow gold, this piece is decorated with a cherub holding a staff and a martini glass on one side, and a glass covered watch face on the other. The image shows the painted cherub standing amongst black floral tracery enamel. The locket is decorated with colorful enamel, including rosy-colored cheeks, blue wings, and a multi-color sash at his waist. Around the cherub’s legs are five small table cut diamonds. The opposite side of the piece reveals a glass-covered watch face, showcasing blue alpha-numeric digits, and ornate gold watch dials. A complimentary shaped handle rests at the top, which also functions as the winder, and is perfect for attaching to a gold chain. When opened from the top, the interior reveals several markings, including a maker’s mark, a horse’s head, and a serial number. This magnificent pocket watch is an antique treasure showcasing two equally beautiful sides, allowing the wearer to choose which one to display as the front. The timepiece would look lovely paired with a complimentary watch chain, and is a must for the antique watch collector!

Measurements: The pocket watch measures 1″ in diameter (not including the handle), and is approximately 1/2″ thick. The handle measures 1/2″ tall and just under 1/2″ wide. 

Condition: The overall condition of the watch is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the watch face and movement, and all of the diamonds are intact and securely set. The enamel is free of any chips or scratches. The watch is not in working order and does not hold or tell time.
