Not many people are aware that Newark, New Jersey was a major hub for the manufacture of jewelry from the late 1800’s until the 1950’s. One of the leading companies, the Riker Brothers, has an early history that dates back to 1846. Their pieces are quite sought after and still remain highly collectible today!
This stunning bangle bracelet from the Art Nouveau era (ca1900) is a wonderful example of the Riker Brothers‘ talent! Crafted in vibrant 14k rose and yellow gold, the front half of this gorgeous bangle is adorned with repoussé-detailing. The repoussé detailing is highly intricate, and depicts 2 dragons and complementary swirling motifs. The bodies of each dragon are further decorated with texturizing-engravings. Each dragon features a single bezel-set diamond eye. A single emerald-cut aqua stone is located between the 2 dragons. The bezel-set stone is wonderfully faceted, and displays a pale blue hue. The back half of the bangle is smooth and simple, and the inside of the piece features an original engraving, which reads: “G.G.W. Emma Ritter-Hickey 9,30,’05”. The bracelet also the Riker Brothers’ maker’s mark, and a “14K” purity mark. A gorgeous signed piece, this bangle would make a spectacular addition to any antique jewelry collection!
Measurements: The inside opening of the bracelet (where a wrist would rest) measures 2 5/8″ wide and 2 1/4″ tall and would fit nicely on an average sized wrist. The bracelet has a surface width of 1/2″.
Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is tho apparent damage to the gold setting, and the aqua is intact and securely set.
