Sardonyx is a banded agate form of Chalcedony Quartz. Hard stone cameos are much more difficult to carve than shell which is a significantly softer material. Most shell cameos were carved in Naples, Italy while the hard stone cameos were cut primarily in Idar-Oberstein, Germany.
An exquisite hard stone sardonyx cameo ring from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This stunning ring is crafted in 18k yellow gold and features a central carved cameo, which is held within a bezel setting. The cameo depicts the side profile of a man wearing a laurel wreath, and is highly detailed. The background of the cameo is a gorgeous rich brown hue, which looks fantastic against the vibrant yellow gold. The shoulders of the ring both feature a stripe of 18k white gold, and the thick band features a ribbed cutout design. It’s a beautiful ring and would look perfect worn everyday or for a special occasion!
Measurements: The ring has a finger size 4.75 but could easily be resized.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the cameo.
