A fantastic book chain and locket pendant necklace from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in sterling silver, this piece begins with a wonderful book chain, which is comprised of alternating oval and square-shaped links. One of the ellipse-shaped links is marked with a “STERLING” purity mark. The center of the chain features a large spring ring, which is attached to an oval-shaped locket. The front of the locket is adorned with lovely raised repoussé motifs, which include blooming flowers, swirls, small balls, and foliage-motifs. The locket opens and closes with a discreet latch, and the inside of the piece features 2 original portraits, which are protected by plastic frames. The backside of the locket is smooth and simple. The inside of the piece is stamped “STERLING”, and the locket features a complimentary bail, which is adorned with intricate swirling-motif engravings. A lovely pendant necklace, this piece would blend seamlessly into any Victorian-era jewelry collection!
